Key takeaways

  • Separate customer method from the provider contract and merchant approval behind it.
  • Use server or provider-confirmed payment records; screenshots and browser returns are insufficient evidence.
  • Plan settlement, checking payment and order records, refund, failure, timeout, and support before enabling a method.
In this guide
  1. List the payment methods customers can use
  2. Ask how each payment method works
  3. Check payment confirmation
  4. Plan how to receive payments and handle refunds

A payment method needs to work for both sides. Customers must be able to pay, and your team needs to confirm the payment, check the money received, and handle refunds.

List the payment methods customers can use

List the options available to your customers: COD, approved mobile financial services, card or bank payments through a gateway, and any verified direct payment method. Do not show a logo until the shop has the applicable live configuration.

Ask how each payment method works

For each method, ask who can apply, required documents, currencies, charges, settlement timing, limits, technical confirmation, refund path, dispute process, support route, and outage behavior. Get current answers from the provider.

Check payment confirmation

Do not mark an order paid because the customer sent a screenshot or returned to a success page. The server-side provider result and your verified payment record must agree. Handle duplicated callbacks and late confirmation safely.

Plan how to receive payments and handle refunds

Reconcile gross amount, provider charges, net settlement, order ID, payment reference, refund, and settlement date. Explain to customers when a payment is pending, failed, or refundable. Use the gateway checklist and keep checkout clear.
